We may not be able to predict everything that will happen in the coming year. However, based on the new book releases for 2023, we have a feeling we’ll be reading all year.
Here are some of the new books that have been released and some that will be released in 2023 that you should look into.
Keep in mind that this is by no means an exhaustive list. Consider it an introduction to the literary delights of 2023, as chosen by book critics and bookstagrammers.
Kim Gillespie vanished the night of a spring festival a year ago, leaving her baby asleep in the stroller. Her family and friends have gathered to celebrate the addition of a new member to the family. Deep in the wine country of South Australia, Federal Investigator Aaron Falk notices cracks in this once-close-knit group, prompting the disclosure of long-kept secrets. Jane Harper is a mystery fan favorite, so Exiles is an easy choice for the best books to read in 2023.

Although the majority of my most anticipated books 2023 are serious, I occasionally enjoy something lighter. Geeta’s bad-boy husband simply disappeared five years ago, and she hasn’t heard from him since. However, the rumor that Geeta murdered him persists in her small Indian village. Geeta isn’t bothered because no one wants to mess with a black widow. Until women start asking Geeta for advice on how to kill their own husbands and refuse to accept no for an answer. The Bandit Queens is both heartwarming and hilarious, with a well-rounded story and witty characters that make for an enjoyable, yet thought-provoking, read.

A highly anticipated book about a marriage in crisis, written by the author of Ask Again, Yes, will be released in 2023. When his boss retires, longtime bartender Malcolm seizes the opportunity to purchase The Half Moon. But Malcolm quickly discovers that making a profit is more difficult than he anticipated. Meanwhile, his wife Jess’s struggle with infertility has caused her to reconsider her life goals. A bar patron goes missing, and a blizzard hits as Malcolm discovers a secret about Jess.

Although June and Athena went to the same high school, Athena has achieved great success as an Asian-American novelist, whereas June is struggling to get a foot in the door, most likely because she is just another ordinary white girl. June snatches up Athena’s unfinished work after witnessing her death in a freak accident. June rebrands herself as a racially ambiguous Juniper Song and becomes an instant bestseller after publishing it as her own. In one of my top picks for books to read in 2023, June must decide how far she is willing to go to keep her secret as the truth threatens to be revealed.

When Jess’s grandmother, who raised her, is hospitalized after a fall, she rushes back from London to Sydney to care for her. While sorting through her grandmother’s belongings, Jess comes across a true crime journal detailing a notorious murder on Christmas Eve in 1959 at a mysterious mansion. Jess, like any journalist, begins to investigate the mystery and the surprising connections to her family’s history. Kate Morton hasn’t published a book in over four years, so Homecoming is undoubtedly one of my most anticipated books of 2023.

After being ignored by his family as a child, William Waters finds refuge in college basketball. When William meets Julia Padavano, a lively girl who is extremely close to her parents and three sisters, he quickly becomes a member of the Padavano family. Although cracks begin to appear in the family, William never imagined he’d be the severing force.
I’m thinking of calling it already. I believe I’ve discovered the best book of 2023. Dear Edward was good, but Hello Beautiful is on another level; it’s that good. The ultimate book club book is Ann Napolitano’s March release. She touches on a wide range of topics in completely relatable and realistic ways.
Hello Beautiful’s character depth was astounding; you felt the characters come to life. Hello Beautiful, a tribute to Little Women, beautifully describes family and sisterhood, mental health, and forgiveness in such a way that you will never forget this story.
